A Trip to Montpelier

  • montpelier

Located in Orange County,Virginia, 26 miles from the Inn, Montpelier was the home of James Madison, fourth President of the United States, Madison and his wife Dolly. Madison returned to his childhood home as an adult to expand the plantation and live with his family. Today, the estate serves as a museum and a site for many popular annual events.  After a $25 million renovation completed in 2008, the home has been brought back to its origional state replicating Madison's era and taking away additions made by subsequent owners.  Much care was taken to ensure authentic methods and materials were used in the process.
